"Volunteers need both selfish and selfless motives to sustain their interest" Natalie de Combray.
A teacher called me selfish because I did something that benefit myself. Of course I'm a selfish person; walking out of a college event constitutes the very basis of not rudeness, but selfishness. God forbid I actively seek out what was good for me, even when it doesn't affect anyone negatively. I'm a selfish bastard alright; I actually went against the event, which was complusary because teachers wanted students to be there, because I wanted to leave. Conflicting interests, I know, but the teacher always wins, because their caring, selfless concern makes their forced event less selfish.
